summer fiesta

In love with this ShopSosie dress that is the best of both my favorite worlds -- mixed prints and maxis. This dress just puts me in a skipping, twirling, and dancing sort of mood, ready for a summer night's fiesta under the twilight of hanging lights in a park. Great way to start my Monday off after such a busy, busy week when I've been so MIA (sorry!).  I missed you guys! Thank you all for always being so supportive of me and my blog, even if I am MIA a bit. You are all amazing and I never want to be away from you sweet readers. (Did I tell you this dress puts me in a good mood or what?? Go to ShopSosie now!)

la creme

Laziness and the thick air of humid heat have beaten me down to wearing as minimal basics as possible just to get through the day, without feeling the sweat and discomfort of extra layers and frills. Pretty sight, right? But even with the simplest basics, dress it up! I switched out the old staple denim shorts for some vintage-inspired lace by Tulle that keeps it lightweight and cute. And instantly chic up your lazy look with pointy heels. By the way have you been spotting these Zara heels around the blogosphere? It's like the bloggerhood of the traveling heels every season with a certain pair of Zaras. These are just so amazing for the price - so Alexander Wang. You need to grab it before it never comes back. I honestly regretted not getting the black strappy Zaras from last season, but this definitely makes up for it. And to top the whole basic outfit off, I added the necessary pop of color with my trusty, scarlet red Foley + Corinna mid-city tote.

tiger by my side

Yes, it's possible to wear scarves in the summer. Though summer scarves are a totally different breed than winter scarves - they're lighter, they're brighter, and they POP. They're the perfectly easy accessory to remix the old summer uniform by adding a bright neon or fun print, like the tiger one I'm wearing from Nepali by TDM Design. PLUS they can keep you warm on those nights that are cool but not cool enough to bring your jacket out. You know you hate holding that all day..

Just a reminder everyone that Nepali by TDM Design is holding a 50% off sale sitewide! Help them raise enough money by the end of summer to build a computer lab in the Nepalese village in which these beautiful scarves were handcrafted. Use code: COMPUTERS. Remember to shop fashionably and responsibly! Thank you all for your wonderful support!

summer of love

I've been obsessed with mixing prints lately, possibly carelessly.  Maybe it's the whim of summer or it's just me being more me, but I'm finding my disposition to be more carefree lately. I'll tell you what inspires me right now...the "Summer of Love" scene with Pattie Boyd and George Harrison at Golden Gate Park...just look at all that paisley and print and color and free-ness. If I were to choose any era to experience, it would be the summer of 1967. Discovering that freedom to express, experience, and explore - that's something only to actually be there can we truly appreciate this privilege.

heat wave makeup essentials

My daily makeup I can't do without through this heat wave time of summer. Each of these have a fighting power that the glaring sun and melting heat can't win against.

1. Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Treatment: super hydrating with SPF 15 while leaving your lips a lush rosy pink.
2. Tarte Cheek Stain in Loving (c/o): skip the powder blush! Tarte's gel cheek stain in its new pinkish/coral color is flattering for any skin tone. Non-drying, won't clog your pores, and lasts through the hot day.
3. Benefit They're Real Mascara (c/o): separates, curls, defines, yet thickens my straight, short eyelashes and doesn't leave a smudge at the end of my day. Best mascara discovery, ever.
4. Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer: My HG concealer. Waterproof, sweatproof - just stays. And covers. What it's meant to do, so your blemishes don't magically appear when happy hour rolls around. I wear Ivory 6.
5. Per-fekt Lip Perfection Gel in Hollywood (c/o): A truly different, long-lasting lip stain that leaves my lips silky and hydrated with a berry-kissed pucker. Non-drying and no sticky feeling. Finishes off a perfectly au naturale summer look.
6. Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Calypso Coral: a multifunctional cream blush and lip cover. It's a bit drying for the lips so I strictly use this for the cheeks, which is beyond amazing. Little goes a long way - just a dab of blush onto your fingers and a pat onto your cheeks - natural looking flush for days, even in a humid 100°F weather or through the ocean waves.

And you know what? I did NOT anticipate the sun and the hot, dry weather messing up my hair this bad, so stay tuned on my next summer beauty segment on haircare and how Bangstyle's new product line comes to my distressed hair damsel's rescue.

techno animal

Mara Hoffman leaves me speechless and dreaming. This 'techno animal' dress is the greatest little dress in my closet that is the life of the party in itself - a literal visual of a whimsical, vibrant, techno world.  I snagged this in 30 seconds as it went on sale at Nasty Gal. How could there be pieces of this left to go on sale?! Whatever, everyone else's lost, my immense treasured gain.  I literally have no more words to describe the vivacity of this inspired piece, but I'm sure the dress can scream for itself.
