heathered maxi

The 90's halter neck silhouette of this maxi dress instantly pulled me in like a girl seeing diamonds (more specifically, Cartier).  Yes, anything reminiscent of 90's decade of fashion excites me and automatically impels me to take out my cash and take that baby home. This maxi is perfect in that its 90s vibe is modernized with a cutout back and high slit that's so popular nowadays (side note: high slits are so 70's though - think Versace, Givenchy - which isn't exactly modern, but everything today is just a reinvention of the past). If you're still averse to high slits as some people are, I'd say you won't know until you try. Slits are an element of surprise in a look, without being overtly sexy or showy. Once you take a step in a slit dress or skirt, you'll feel the rush of confidence as the wind catches the garb in its full billowing glory. Plus it gives a prime presentation of your amazing shoes!

sunday funday: colorblocked

(images via fashiongonerogue)

I love this editorial from Obsession Magazine for two things: the beautiful Wang Xiao and the streets of LA as the backdrop.  The styling is so LA, so striking, and very well done in contrast with its surroundings.  Just lusting over the Louis Vuitton and Dior looks.

P.S. Last day for 25% off dresses at LAST NIGHT!

print mix

The clash of the prints -- exciting, rule-breaking, and not for the faint-hearted. It's not an easy trend to tread with so much room for mistakes and potential grimaces, but who cares! Isn't that the point of fash-un? There's no rules here and no one to truly dictate what is on point (please don't put a hit on me Ms. Wintour), you know what I mean? So I always say have fun, be daring, and always be confident in your choices, it's the only way to pull off even a trash bag with holes for your head and limbs.

Anyway, a guideline I'd like to suggest when trying to mix contrasting prints is to make sure the prominent colors of both prints are from the same color family. It allows for an easier blend on the eye. And thus, here is my attempt at print scrambling with an edgy denim camo jacket and a slightly nerdy flask-printed dress.  And I loved it. Would you try it? Please say yes.

patchwork

It's been a looong time since you've seen me in jeans, right? I've gotten to a level of love/hate with jeans, where I can love them for keeping my legs warm and covered but I hate that jeans are normally suffocating for my legs (maybe that's my fault for getting skinnies, but they're the only ones that look right on me). Wearing dresses and skirts and wide-leg pants have definitely spoiled my legs with freedom that they can't let go of. That's why I love these boyfriend jeans from Fidelity Denim with their cute patchwork. They're so comfortable and stylish in a tomboy-ish way so it's easy to contrast it with super girly items, like the Cole Haan pumps. I'm also wearing the blue sweater from Left on Houston on the daily, because it's suuuch a well made knit that's cozy but light enough for Spring and Summer. And blue is naturally my favorite color. And now I've just realized my past three looks were on a blue roll...

MAGIC Top Ten

Top Ten at MAGIC

1. Gypsy Junkies
It's exciting to see their collections get bigger and bigger by the season as each collection just tops the previous with cultural inspirations from all over the world. Love their endless amounts of color and friendship bracelets. Check out more about them here.

2. Rebecca Minkoff
These unreal hologram pumps are straight off the Fall 2013 runway. The color, shape, everything is just extraordinary.

3. BCBGeneration
I had so much fun creating custom affirmation bracelets at the BCBGeneration skybox. It's such a great statement piece to wear while literally making a statement. Find some for yourself here.

4. Wildfox Couture
Wildfox never stops surprising me with their over the top adorable prints and graphics and super California girly girl vibes. I checked out their whole line of vintage-inspired sunglasses, which are definitely a must-have for this summer. Find them here.

5. lovemarks
Ah, discovering new brands that create amazingly cute collections from which I want every single piece is the gold of MAGIC. Lovemarks is hands down one of my favorite discoveries, after seeing their gorgeous "booth" (more like living room facade which I must steal) and obsessing over their digital floral print shortsuit (which I will post soon enough). Amazing things are in the works at lovemarks! Find out more about them here.

6. Blackstone
I just happened onto Blackstone by accident with Jenny and at first glance, I would've missed this. But while seduced by wine and delicious cheese, I was able to more carefully inspect their shoes and as every second passed I grew more and more entranced with their pieces. You can just see and feel the upmost quality of craftsmanship that goes into every shoe. I love their contemporary twist on classic silhouettes, like this ah-mazing python-skinned sport shoe that's probably intended for men, but I'll take one in my size, thank you.

7. Hudson Jeans
Each season Hudson doesn't fail to impress with their classic denims and unique in-house prints that sprinkle into their collection. Their pants are just made to fit and made to make you look good and on top of the trends. It's always so much fun at their booth as they provide a fun "shopping" experience and a giant white wall to tag.

8. Rebecca Minkoff
More stingray goodness. I love seeing more and more stingray options pop up as it is one of my favorite textures, ever.

9. Blackstone
Perforated leather sneakers? YES.

10. Ellison
I love the PR girl behind Ellison who designs the booth every year with her own accessories from home and the office. It's such a girly girl's fairytale scene that matches their feminine, yet casually chic line. Find them here.

Thanks for reading! MAGIC is always a wonderful experience getting to see what your favorite label is up to for the next season and discovering new and upcoming designers and brands. Until next time!
