Skincare From The Inside Out

To those who’ve been following me long enough, you’ve seen that I’m passionate about beauty and skincare. I think that my enthusiasm stems from my complex relationship growing up without much confidence within my skin. I was in the population of teenagers that dealt with terrible acne and terrible ways of covering up my face with so many chemicals from acne products and bad makeup. As I grew with the internet, I gathered from endless resources on how to effectively take care of my skin with the right ingredients...and these are the kinds of ingredients you eat and drink. I’ve learned that beauty literally comes from within. Your skin is your body’s biggest organ and it just as well is affected by what you put into your body. To achieve smooth, glowing skin, I don't just stop at my vanity - I continue my skincare routine from my bathroom to my kitchen.

The first thing I do is hydrate. I immediately drink down 8 oz of filtered water, then pour another 8 oz of water for my collagen drink. Collagen is the skin’s biggest building block and it’s something we quickly lose as we age. To boost collagen production and offset what we’re naturally losing, it’s important to consistently take a collagen supplement. It’s not possible to actually replace collagen in the body, but it is possible to stimulate your body’s own production and it’s never too early or late. There’s a ton of supplements out there, but my personal favorite is Nordic Naturals Marine Collagen. It’s a brand I trust that’s non-GMO and never uses preservatives or artificial flavors and color (I also take the Nordic Naturals Postnatal Omega-3); I love their collagen supplement, because it’s so easy to take every day in a powder formula that delivers optimal absorption. Nordic Naturals Marine Collagen is made from small collagen peptides blended with natural vitamin C to aid and stimulate collagen-producing cells throughout your body. The Type 1 collagen is sourced sustainably from wild-caught Arctic cod from the cleanest waters. The powder effortlessly mixes with cold water and has such a nice, subtle strawberry flavor. It also doesn’t hurt to add more vitamin C with a squeeze of fresh lemon!

When I mean to hydrate, I really hydrate. After two cups of water, I brew a pot of jasmine green tea to sip for the morning. The antioxidants found in green tea is of the highest abundance out of many foods, so it’s amazing for anti-aging, reducing inflammation, and combating environmental damage. I also crave my big bowl of tasty, good-for-skin oatmeal every morning! I use organic rolled oats and I cook it with almond milk, goji berries, and raw honey, then I add in ground flax seed, chia seeds, and black sesame powder while it’s cooling. All of the antioxidants, vitamins, and Omega-3’s are so, so good for skin and body. There’s a few more things I eat for glowing skin throughout the day, like a few spoonfuls of extra virgin olive oil in whatever I cook and lots of dark berries (blueberries, blackberries) and of course, a ton of water to keep my skin and body hydrated and nourished - I strive for a minimum of 80 oz a day. When my skin is feeling extra dull and parched, I go for a second collagen drink with Nordic Naturals Marine Collagen just before bedtime!

Whenever someones asks me what my skincare routine is, I tell them that the plumpness of my skin and the glow comes from the nutrients and hydration first, then with the aid of a few choice skincare products. My best advice is to take care of your skin from the inside out!
