The most exciting moment of our summer was the quickest trip we've ever taken overseas - a whirlwind 72 hour jaunt through the renaissance city of Venice, Italy.
I looked forward to this destination the most because out of my first European excursion last summer, Venice was truly my favorite of all, even though I spent less than 24 hours in the city. Venice forces you to become spontaneous, where proper streets rarely exist among a labyrinth of terracotta alleys that spit you out into new corners of the beautiful Old World.
There are no Ubers, no vespas, not even a bike - you've got only wood-paneled water taxis and your own two feet to depend on. Venice is a relatively small city that is roughly the size of two New York City's Central Parks put together, but the means to explore the quiet nooks and aged crannys of Venice require a lot of water and very comfortable shoes. Venice is one of the only places in the world where you'll find me wearing flats for the day, since taxis are no saviors. Without a pause, I chose to bring Clarks (as I do everywhere I travel) because for such technology-backed comfort, they make it look so chic. So for 72 hours on my feet, these Clarks loafers make the perfectly comfortable and stylish adventure soles. The croc leather loafers are my favorite from their fall collection because they're an affordable nod to the classic Italian loafer. Clarks is always the right investment without the investment price tag, which makes them an easy yet essential travel piece.
I love, love, love this Rachel Comey dress and fell head over heels as soon as I saw the print peeking between oversized knits in her Melrose store. Everything about this dress makes it a quintessential summer dress that I'm going to keep wearing through every season because it's just so good. The artsy, charming 'faces' print originated from an Italian fabric archive, where the designer herself visited and created her unique print from the inspiration. It was only natural that I bring the dress back to its home soil where it fits in whimsically.
Soon, I'll be posting a video I made from Venice, where I had so much fun shopping for the best kinds of souvenirs to bring home! Watch out for it on the blog and Youtube.
