Makeup for the Red Lip

How to compliment a bold, red lip with a few products.

A red lip is a bold statement of spirit and femininity and it transforms you once you put it on. I love a deep, beautiful red as I find that it compliments my skin tone really well and I don't have to make up much else to look put together.  It's the easiest way to dress up for the night without fussing with a smokey eye or overdone hair. It's effortless and that's all me.  I remember my first time wearing a red lip, how scary it was to wear such a bold color and how I looked like I stepped out of a poodle salon with dark layered eyeshadow, and rose-y blush with the red lips. I wasn't aware I had to change up my normal makeup routine to accommodate this new lip look. So for the first-timers and for the lip lovers who've been around the block, here's my makeup tips and products I find essential and effortlessly complimentary to a romantic red lip look...
1. Play up glowing skin with an illuminating primer all over face and highlighter on the focal points of the face (cheekbones, cupid's bow, nose bridge, inner eye corners).
2. Stick with warm, neutral shades like a sun-touched bronze or deep rose-brown for cheeks. Apply minimally.
3. Accentuate the eyes with kept brows and black mascara on top and bottom lashes.
4. Sweep a radiant, nude eyeshadow on the eyelids or a sheer, rosey gloss for a little more dazzle. Occasionally, use a dark brown or black eyeliner on the top lashline for added emphasis on the eyes for a nighttime event.

My favorite red lipsticks:

Kjaer Weis 'KW Red'
Kosas 'Fringe'
Laura Mercier 'Temptation'
