Acabar, LA

For my dear friend Chanelle's birthday, we planned a much-needed girls excursion to exotic Acabar in LA.

If there's anything to prepare us for the grandeur and extravagance that we were about to walk into, it would be the colossal gold doors that separate the mundane intersection of Sunset and Stanley from the dazzling, gypset destination inside. Once you get through the heavy, glitzy doors, you're welcomed by a calming firepit that illuminated the sparkling bar behind and the meticulous details in the decor. To the right was a heavy cushioned lounge where Fridays and Saturdays are a vision of midnight mischief for the bright young things. To the left was the romantic and dimly lit dining room and from there we were taken on a culinary journey through the French-inspired East.

Each plate was an eclectic fusion of Mediterranean and Asian flavors that elevated common dishes like grilled octopus and a duck salad to new heights of intrigue. The crispy shrimp toast were unexpected bites of Thai shrimp drizzled with warm quail yoke and the New Zealand snapper was full of truffle everything that would satisfy even the biggest truffle fanatic. My personal favorite were the fried buns, that tasted like fresh-out-of-the-fryer fried doughnuts, stuffed with the softest braised lamb and savory accompaniments.  Dessert was a fun blast to the past with fresh strawberry gushers, that tasted insanely better than the icky stuff we snacked as kids.

Acabar's playfulness in its ambiance certainly flows into its daring menu, which made for a thrilling magic carpet ride for my girls and me. If you want the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, with an equally exciting menu done right, make your next girls night out at Acabar.

Thanks to my ladies Enocha, Emily, and Jenny for coming out to our celebration for Chanelle!
