Puerto Rico

This time of year is all about escapes. And when I travel, I want to try something new and indulge in great experiences. Check out my favorite moments from my recent Puerto Rico escape.

1. Swimming under a waterfall

One of the most exciting things on our itinerary was to hike the El Yunque Rainforest, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S., just minutes from El Conquistador. It was a hot temperate day with bouts of downpour in between the sun peeking from the clouds. The short trail (only 0.7 miles) follows the course of La Mina river, down the mountain through lush trees and plenty of palms, and culminates in the grand presence of La Mina waterfall and a cool, natural pool to jump in. The challenging hike warmed me up, so I was ready to dive into the colder waters and float in the middle of the rainforest. I wore my L*Space bikini in a cute denim and tribal print underneath my Jockey activewear, so I stripped down and got into the pool without any hesitation. It was so breathtaking how refreshing it felt to immerse into the beauty and simplicity of nature’s offerings and my body and mind felt recharged.

Even when it’s cloudy and the sun peeks out at its own desire, full coverage sunscreen is still a necessity to protect your skin from sun damage. I packed both of my Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport SPF 30 Lotion and Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport SPF 30 Clear Spray to keep my body protected while indulging in its tropical scent. I like to smooth my legs with the silky lotion before going into the water and re-applying SPF 30 to my skin with the Clear Spray after getting out of the ocean for double duty. Don’t forget to always reapply every 2 hours!

2. Floating in the Caribbean

On a more gorgeous day with little rain, I took the water ferry from El Conquistador to the resort’s private Palomino Island for their white sandy beaches and crystal blue waters. Approaching the island was such a tease as the turquoise blue horizon expanded beyond my eyesight. Although I took a pit stop to grab a Pina Colada, I immediately searched for a secluded area and found a postcard-worthy spot with palm trees overhanging the shore. The waters were incredibly warm and clear – such a contrast between the Pacific Ocean back home. I brought my garden print L*Space bikini in turquoise to go with the fun Caribbean Sea.
