My Natural Makeup Routine

Did you know natural makeup can be this good?

My makeup routine is very relaxed - lazy, even. I developed an attitude of comfort and versatility in choosing the clothes I buy and finally, that has made its way into my beauty regimen. Six months ago as I honed in on prepping my skin for a flawless look on my wedding day, I took the plunge into the glistening sea of natural, organic beauty. It's been an endless battle with my sensitive, acne-prone skin since I can remember my first Clearasil tube in middle school; now, I finally feel victory. My entire skincare and makeup wardrobe has switched to natural, organic, and even more luxurious alternatives and the comfort of safe ingredients with the versatility of nutrients and hues have fortified peace of mind and glowing clarity.

My fifteen minute makeup clock starts with six drops of Vintner's Daughter Active Botanical Serum, which is frankly the best face oil I've ever used and will ever use. The high price tag is something I've accepted as an easily justifiable investment, because the glee in waking up with soft, glowing skin is worth every penny. I use this day and night, but it's so amazing during the day as a silky primer for the rest of my makeup.

Gwyneth Paltrow showed me the way to Juice Beauty's organic Phyto-Pigments foundation and as the creative director of makeup for the brand, you just know everything will be good and goop-approved. A beautyblender spritzed with some jasmine mist and a pump of foundation is a magical combination for a dewy, even-toned finish. For my concealer, I use RMS "Un" Cover-up, which is so smooth and has great, buildable coverage. Ok, it's actually the best thing ever because it just melts into your skin as it naturally warms and whatever you're covering up looks flawlessly finished. Most of the time, I really just use this to spot conceal or as a thin layer of all-over coverage.

I have plenty of guilty nights falling asleep with a full face of foundation, but my skin never feels heavy in the morning, and I have a feeling that's due to the active nutrients like resveratrol and coconut oil in the formulas. Versatility at its finest.

The award for best packaging in all of the beauty world goes straight to Kjaer Weis, but her organic makeup formulations are just as top-notch. The range of colors in blush, eyeshadows, and lips are  so sophisticated and luxe, it's hardly believable every hue comes from plants and wildflowers. I've been deeply inspired by raw, antiqued beauty lately, so I dab a swash of pale pink "Angelic" with my ring finger on my lids for the everyday look and I gravitate towards a deep dark-green "Green Depth" for a unique take on a smokey eye at night. Everything in her makeup line is easy to blend and use with just your fingers, and I love the ease in that. For my cheeks, Abundance is a flattering, rosy blush and I top it off with swipes of creamy Radiance on my cheekbones, nose bridge, cupid's bow,  top and sides of my eyes, and chin. You really can't go wrong with putting this subtle luminizer everywhere.

I strictly use Kosas natural lipsticks, because, like everything else I've already talked about, Kosas is simply the best in its category. It's the no-fuss lipstick for the minimalist that comes in a curated range of beautiful nudes that are far from the Kyle Jenner nude [lip] - more so red, rose-y neutrals that compliment every shade of natural lip.  I have the entire collection, no shame. Stardust is my daily nude, while I love Fringe for a slightly more dramatic touch. Best applied with your ring finger for a soft, just-bitten kind of flush.

    1. Hi Susan! I've tried the Glossier Stretch Me and it is a similar feel, but RMS wins in my book because it's also 100% natural and organic so that's a no-brainer ;)

  4. Your skin looks absolutely flawless in the pictures! I am a huge advocate of natural skincare and makeup too, and since making the switch for skincare I have noticed a huge difference in my skin. I am in the final year of my degree learning to be a naturopath and have since discovered just how terrible the chemicals in these products are. I commend you for making the switch and for promoting awareness on your post.
